The success of the organ transplantation system of the Republic of Azerbaijan requires the cooperation of many individuals, along with highly developed technology. The success of the system depends most on the selfless generosity of organ donors and families who choose to improve the lives of others through organ donation.

Currently, the work of each transplant hospital program, organ procurement organization and transplant histocompatibility laboratory in the Republic of Azerbaijan is organized and coordinated by ODTKM.

According to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 20, 2020 on donation and transplantation of human organs and tissues, a live organ donor can only be a person who has reached the age of 18 (except for bone marrow and stem cells). A cadaver donor can be a person whose organs are taken for transplantation, biological death or complete cessation of all functions of the brain and irreversible processes (hereafter - brain death) have been recorded.
