The success of the organ transplantation system of the Republic of Azerbaijan requires the cooperation of many individuals, along with highly developed technology. The success of the system depends most on the selfless generosity of organ donors and families who choose to improve the lives of others through organ donation.
Currently, the work of each transplant hospital program, organ procurement organization and transplant histocompatibility laboratory in the Republic of Azerbaijan is organized and coordinated by ODTKM.

Patient safety
The Operations and Safety Committee (OSC) works to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of the organ donation and transplantation system.
Informing patients
As outlined in the OPTN policy on patient notification, transplant hospitals must send the patient information letter with their patient notification letters.
Live donation
The living donor committee develops policies and guidelines for living donor donation and transplantation.
Child transplantation
According to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 20, 2020 on donation and transplantation of human organs and tissues, a live organ donor can only be a person who has reached the age of 18 (except for bone marrow and stem cells). A cadaver donor can be a person whose organs are taken for transplantation, biological death or complete cessation of all functions of the brain and irreversible processes (hereafter - brain death) have been recorded.
Organ transport
As outlined in the OPTN policy on patient notification, transplant hospitals must send the patient information letter with their patient notification letters.
Ethical considerations
It is submitted to the OPTN Board of Directors for informational purposes by the OPTN Ethics Committee and is intended for OPTN operations.

The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is a unique public-private network that connects all professionals involved in the US donation and transplantation system. The European Organization for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) is an organization that unites the organ transplantation community in Europe. Asia Transplantation (ATCO) is an organization that aims to spread organ donation and transplantation in Asian countries, promote best practices, set ethical standards and promote research.
