National webinar for kidney transplant professionals provides education on OPTN policy regarding eGFR wait time changes.
The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is hosting a webinar for kidney transplant professionals on March 15, 2023 to report on the OPTN Council's recent policy action to change the waiting period for candidates affected by race-specific eGFR estimates.

The webinar will be recorded and made available for later viewing on the OPTN website.The webinar will help kidney transplant programs understand what they need to do to comply with the policy, including:
• Identification of affected Black candidates using race-based eGFR estimation
• Unmatched eGFR calculation to gain candidate wait time for transplant
• Shows that he needs to adapt more quickly to start.
• Communicate with patients about policy changes and potential effects on wait times
• Application to OPTN for changing the waiting period for such candidates
• Submit a certificate to OPTN that they have completed all these steps
The OPTN Committees on Minority Affairs and Kidney Transplantation sponsored the proposal, which was unanimously approved by the Board in December 2022.
