On March 29, 2024, a seminar on "A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Diagnosis of Brain Death" was held, organized jointly by the Scientific-Practical and Training Center of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee, the Central Customs Hospital, and the Society of Anesthesiologists and Resuscitators of Azerbaijan. The event was attended by the Head of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medical Sciences, Honored Doctor, Major General of Medical Service Ceyhun Mammadov, Deputy Head of the Medical Service Department, PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Ismayil Efendiyev, Chief Doctor of the Central Customs Hospital Bakhtiyar Musayev, Chairwoman of the Board of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Coordination Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medical Sciences Yegana Abbasova, Chairwoman of the Society of Anesthesiologists and Resuscitators of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medical Sciences Zahra Vazirova, as well as doctors, resuscitators, and medical staff.
In the official part, the Chairwoman of the Board of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Coordination Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medical Sciences Yegana Abbasova, and the Chairwoman of the Society of Anesthesiologists and Resuscitators of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medical Sciences Zahra Vazirova, shared their thoughts on the relevance of the topic and thanked the leadership of the Medical Service for their continuous medical education activities on important issues.
Yegana Abbasova, Chairwoman of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Coordination Center, stated that there is currently a great need for the diagnosis of brain death to find donors for many patients waiting for organ transplants. She highly valued the work of resuscitators in this process and noted that following today's seminar, it is expected that this process will begin, and doctors will be able to assist their patients who are waiting for organs.
After the official part, the scientific session of the seminar began. During the scientific part, the following presentations were made: Head of the Surgery and Organ Transplantation Department of the Central Customs Hospital, PhD in Medical Sciences, General Surgeon, Transplantologist Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi on "The Clinical Significance of Brain Death Diagnosis," Chairwoman of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Coordination Center of the Ministry of Health, PhD in Medical Sciences Yegana Abbasova on "The Diagnosis and Confirmation Methods of Brain Death," Anesthesiologist-Resuscitator of the Central Customs Hospital Dr. Mehdi Aliyev on "A Practical Approach to the Diagnosis of Brain Death and Our Experience," and Head of the Radiology Department of the Central Customs Hospital, Specialist Radiologist Dr. Eldeniz Huseynov on "The Role of Instrumental Diagnostic Examinations in Determining Brain Death." During the seminar, questions of interest to the audience were answered, and discussions on real clinical cases were held.
