On May 3, 2024, as part of the "Nakhchivan Health Days" dedicated to the 101st anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a scientific conference on the topic “Multidisciplinary Approach to the Diagnosis of Brain Death” was held at Nakhchivan State University. The event was organized by the Scientific-Practical and Training Center of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Central Customs Hospital, the official partner Turkey's Florence Nightingale Hospitals Group, and the Nakhchivan Main Customs Department.
The Chairperson of the Board of the Organ Donation and Transplant Coordination Center of the Ministry of Health, Ph.D. Dr. Yegana Abbasova, delivered a speech on “Management of Potential Donors in the ICU after Brain Death.”
“The Central Customs Hospital is a leader in the field of organ and tissue transplantation, which is the last resort for survival for the most critical patients. We have always strived to support the development of organ transplantation in the country, reforms, and processes in other medical institutions by regularly organizing conferences, seminars, and webinars on organ transplantation. According to the law adopted in our country, it is possible to use organs from deceased individuals during organ transplantation surgeries. For this, it is essential to correctly diagnose brain death. All these issues will be discussed at today’s conference, and I hope it will be very useful and interesting for the participants,” said Jeyhun Mammadov.
In his speech, the Head of the Scientific-Practical and Training Center of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee, Deputy Chairperson of the Health Committee of the National Assembly, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Doctor, and Cardiovascular Surgeon, Rashad Mahmudov, stated that every society is driven forward by its vision, thinking, and strategy linked to the future.
